Torriglia is the "front door" of the Trebbia Valley.
The village is on the Appennine watershed and includes the
valleys of the Trebbia river , the Scrivia river and the Brugneto
lake basin, water reserve of the city of Genoa. Torriglia is
located at the feet of Mount Prelà from which the Trebbia
river is being born.
2300 resident inhabitants, certainly no more than 500 working,
Torriglia perhaps reaches 15000 peoples’ presences
in Summer .
Its great history, recently rediscovered, reminds us of the
Imperial Fief, the Prince, the Bargello, the Police, the Castle
under restoration, bandits, tortures and capital executions.
Always fluttering around is Fiesco’s presence, protagonist
of the Genoese History and the unlucky conspiracy which put
an end to the secular struggle between the poor mountain and
the rich city.
Its marvellous nature, the Brugneto Lake with its trekking
path, sport fishing of big lake trouts, vivacious perches, opulent
fund carps, or the long walks along the streams of the Trebbia,
Pentemina and Laccio rivers to pick our fario trouts or chars.
The massive Mount Antola, always in Genoeses' hearts
and strategic junction of trekking itineraries, the high
road, the Pre-Roman Patrania or the Caminus Janue, memory of
the Crusades.
The rich, varied and opulent flora gathers Mediterranean and
continental species, from the glacial relicts to the numerous
officinal herbs which make interesting also the less demanding
excursions: the Aaron’s beard for oil, the arnica for
lotions, the bitter “Camedrio”, the fever herb
and so on.
Observation shelters where in October one can observe migrations
or protected zones where community of fallow deer or pucks
quietly pasture.
The chestnuts harvesting, to be tasted in various traditional
ways and raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, last
witnesses of disappearing tastes.
Or mushrooms, where the silence of soft woods is relished,
nobody will teach you good mushroom beds, you will conquer
it with hard work, step by step up till a fast heartbeat and
then hush, next year you will find others again, “Mazzin” mushrooms, “Peven” mushrooms, “Sementin” mushrooms, “Thin
legs” mushrooms and the fascinating mysterious
and gigantic “Berbexin” mushroom.
After Zanfretta’s adventures of the 70s, the
Capital of UFOs, in cold October evenings you might have
non common visions, but do not tell anyone, they might think
you are a bit crazy. Thanks to lack of pollution here you can
still enjoy the stars, the sky, Saturn’s rings and gorgeous
comets.
And even the village, with its Patronal feasts, the Providence,
St. Orsolina, St. Bernardo, people scattered around in the
world come back again to share ancient values.
The restored Historical Centre, the ancient fountains, the
sporting equipments, football and tennis fields, outdoor and
indoor bowls areas, the always crowded new Cinema, and a spacious
parking area for Campers.
What more can I say? Typical desserts, “canestrelli”,
sandwiches, the Belle of Torriglia whom everyone wants and
nobody takes, located in the historical Centre where she had
lived.
And let us not forget children and elderly people can stay
here and relax. The Italian Red Cross volunteers, the Local
Sanitary Unit structures and doctors guarantee safety, here
at 800 meters above sea level where pleasant temperature,
fine air and proximity to Genoa let commuters sleep on fresh
air, chat with friends and leave their apartments to thieves’ mercy.
