The church of Rovegno
Rovegno is located on a slightly steep ground that from the main ridge goes down tothe river, forming an ample fan-shaped basin delimited westwards by the steep and woody slopes of Mount Cavalla (1327 mt). The geologic structure of the surrounding ground is very interesting: rocks scattered at mountains feet go back to glacial phenomena; types of rock are varied, several minerals and  microscopic fossils have been found in it .
The ancient copper mine was already known in old times, between 1000 and 1100 circa,  exploited up again from the beginning of last century. Native copper and azurrite were also extracted, nowadays the mine is completely abandoned.
The oldest written document known related to the village of Rovegno has been found in the Monastery of Bobbio’s files and it refers to a notarial act dated 863. About the existence of the Parish we have certain information since  1076. Even if parishes usually have ample jurisdiction,  we cannot establish precisely its limits: we know that it was certainly extended over the upper Trebbia Valley. Only in 1623 the Aresio Synod clarified the Rovegno Parish extension stating under its jurisdiction the the whole upper Trebbia Valley, Torriglia and some parishes in the Aveto Valley.

The church today , began in 1821 in substitution of the previous one that rose between the village and Valle Village and collapsed because of a landslide, was decorated with stucco works in 1848 and later frescoes; the main entrance is adorned by an elegant portal in bronze of remarkable workmanship by the sculptor G.Galletti set in work in 1962. The historical stories, common to many settlements, tell us the village first belonged to Bobbio Monastery, then to the Fieschis of Lavagna and from the half of the 13th century to the Republic of Genoa which followed the destiny of. It was later included  in the Province of Pavia up to 1923.
At the beginning of the village the old copper mine that  was already active in 1000  is still visible. The mine  was closed down around 1920 because no more productive.
Today Rovegno is an alive and famous tourist place, rich of initiatives during the whole year.
