The Mount Antola Regional Natural Park

The Mount Antola Natural Park was funded by the Regional Law nmb. 12 as of 22/02/95 and the Park Plan was approved with regional deliberation N° 42 as of 03/08/2001.
The Antola park area is one of the most beautiful and suggestive zones in the Appennine and the Ligurian hinterland. It includes two big valleys, the Scrivia and the Trebbia Valley and other smaller ones but not less interesting such as the Vobbia Valley, the Pentemina Valley, the Brevenna Valley, the Brugneto Valley, the Cassingheno Valley and the Terenzone Valley. The park borders Piedmont northward and Emilia Romagna southward and it is made up of twelve Communes mountainous territories : Busalla, Crocefieschi, Isola del Cantone, Ronco Scrivia, Savignone, Valbrevenna and Vobbia in the Scrivia Valley, Fascia, Gorreto, Propata, Rondanina and Torriglia in the Trebbia Valley.
The Mount Antola top (1597 mt.)
The park area is dominated by the Mount Antola top (1597 mt.) which name comes from Greek "anthos" meaning “flower”.
As a matter of fact the flowerings which cover the lawns below the peak from April to July are fascinating: narcissuses, orchids, gentians, lilies, buttercups and dozens of other varieties. The Mount Antolais the favourite destination of Genoese people and was already known and  frequented in the Middle Ages.
From the top of the mountain we can admire an incomparable panorama that spaces 360° on the boundless horizon: you can perceive the ships docked in Genoa Port and the West coast lights  at sunset time; one can even see the Corsica Island and the Tuscan archipelago Islands and the Apuane Alps appear on the left. Westwards there are other valleys that introduce us to the Maritime Alps and one can see the whole mountainous system up to the Retiche Alps.
On the background of a sea-like plain, between the Appennines and the Alps, the Mount Monviso peaks as well as the Mount Bianco and the Mount Rosa peaks stand out.
During the centuries the Mount Antola, finding itself on the ridge that joins the Upper Scrivia Valley to the Upper Trebbia Valley, has been an important extra-regional crossroad, letting the inhabitants of the two valleys move seasonally and make commercial and cultural exchanges.
According to the dispositions of the Park Plan the protected areas of the Mount Antola are three:
:: Zone B or “General oriented reserve”.
Zone B includes only one area: the zone of the Reopasso Rocche .
:: Zone C or “Area of protection”.
It’s the widest part of the park, the one with high naturalistic and environmental value connected to particular cultural forms, agricultural productions and settlement patterns.
:: Zone D or “Development area”.
The Development areas are the ones with elevated naturalistic values and presence of structures destined to activities and services. These zones are:
- The area of the Mount Reale top.
- The Vobbia stream and the Stone Castle .
- The Valbrevenna ecomuseum.
- The area of the Mount Antola top and  its mountain regufe.
- The Brugneto Lake.
- The of Casa del Romano’s astronomic observatory.
:: Adjoining zones functionally connected to the park area.
They are portions of territory functionally connected to the protected area although they are not part of it. Among these zones one finds the villages Pentema , Senarega and Chiappa.
